Objectives
|
1.To raise the status of girl child and her mother by changing the women's and community's
attitude and behaviour towards the girl child.
2.To encourage the girl child to attend school and continue her education.
3.To ensure the survival of girl child by discouraging female foeticide and
infanticide,and provide protection and development support.
4 To reduce girl child labour within and outside the household.
5 To ensure equals rights and opportunities for the girl child as provided to the boy in
the family. |
Eligibility |
1. The mother of the girl child born on or after August 1997 in a family below the poverty
line in urban/rural areas.
2. The girl child of a below poverty line family attending school.In urban areas,BPL
families are identified on the basis of surveys conducted by the Department of Employment
and Poverty Alleviation,Ministry of Urban Development. In the absence of a
survey,households covered under the Target Public Distribution system are considered for
the Scheme.In rural areas,girls from families of BPL are identified by integrated Rural
Development Programme(IRDP)

Pattern
of Assistance |
1. A grant of Rs.500 will be given to the mother of baby girl born on or after 15th August
1997.
2.A scholarship will be given for education when she attends school.
3.For urban areas,the funds are released to state level Committee in the
Secretariat/Directorate of Municipal Administration which in turn will release the grant
to the municipalities. |
