Myth: If you use any method of contraception immediately after marriage, you will not conceive later when you actually want.
Not true: No method of contraception will make you infertile. As it may be seen that some couples conceive immediately after marriage, some take months and some may never conceive at all. Infertility is seen in 18-20% of normal couples otherwise.

Myth: If you disclose your pregnancy at an early stage, you have great chances of miscarrying your baby.
Not true: One must understand that disclosure does not cause any mishaps in pregnancies. Statistically 22-24% of pregnancies may end up in spontaneous miscarriages. There are various reasons responsible for this. Mostly it is due to defective germ cells.

Myth: This is one of the most common myths that intake of dark coloured foods likes tea, coffee makes your child dark and white foods like milk, curd makes your baby fair.
Not true:The complexion of your baby is not determined by the food you take and it cannot be altered as well. The complexion of the child is rather predetermined by the genes.

Myth: If you sit or lie down cross-legged, your baby will get entangled in the umbilical cord.
Not true:Your posture does not affect the baby's movement inside. The entanglement of the umbilical cord depends on the baby's own movements, length of the cord etc.

Myth: If you eat a lot of ghee in your last months, it makes your vagina slippery and delivery is easier.
Not true: When you eat too much of ghee and other fatty things it only increases your own accumulated fats and hence the weight. It has no effects on the vaginal mucosa and vaginal expansion at the time of delivery. Delivery is improved by your own relaxation and is a natural phenomenon.

Myth: In case of premature deliveries, babies born in the 7th month (i.e. 24-28 weeks of gestation) survive whereas babies born in the 8th month (28-32 weeks) do not.
Not true: In premature deliveries, baby's survival chances improve with each gestational week added to the age. Hence these babies require close intensive nursery care. Though each day that baby spends in the uterus is the best since the uterus is the best incubator and it also enhances the baby's maturity of organs. While in the intensive nursery, the baby is to be closely monitored by doing a lot of investigations, intravenous nutrition, drugs etc.

Myth: New mother should not drink water as it causes enlargement of the abdomen.
Not true: on the contrary, a new mother should take in a lot of water as it will flush off the kidneys and hence prevent urine infections from setting in. it will also fulfil the increasing demands of fluids in lactating mothers. Whether to drink cold or hot water is dependent of the climate and of course the individual taste. But one must avoid too much of ice. Avoid too much of fats and ghee as well.

Myth: Do not eat papaya or pineapple in pregnancy.
Not true: Both these fruits have good nutritional value and are not at all harmful.

Myth: Do not go out or for that matter do anything when it is a lunar or solar eclipse during pregnancy.
Not true: There is no scientific proof that any exposure during these eclipses is harmful or tetratogenic for the foetus.

Myth: You cannot become pregnant while feeding the baby or before you start having periods after delivery.
Not true: One may become pregnant during lactating phase as well prior to resumption of periods. It is true that possibility of ovulation is low hence pregnancy is marginally low during these stages. But possibility still remains. Worst is when pregnancy is identified during this period because it is detected at a fairly advanced stage
