Kasim Khan is a poor farmer who lives with his wife and young
daughter Shabnam. In need of money to cultivate his land, he goes to the zamindar for a
loan. The zamindar is a shrewd man who is always cheating the villagers. He asks Kasim for
collateral. Kasim has nothing to give and
agrees to give his daughter as security. The zamindar and his wife keeps Shabnam like a
maid and make her do all the house work.
Shabnam
is very unhappy and wishes she could go back to her home where she would run in the fields
with her friends and was carefree. On her birthday a
fairy appears and grants her a wish that for one day she can do whatever she feels like.
So Shabnam is dressed in the best of clothes and goes out in the fields singing and
dancing.
The young Prince of the land is passing by and happens to see Shabnam singing and
dancing. When he approaches her to ask her who she is, she gets scared and runs away. The
Prince follows her to the zamindars house and sees how she is ill treated by the zamindar
and his wife. He learns that Shabnams father has left her as security and is unable to pay
his debts. The Prince releases Shabnam out of the zamindars bondage and returns her to her
parents at the same time punishing the zamindar for cheating the
villagers.
