| In the Sanghipat state of
Kashmir, there once ruled a king. The king had no heirs so both the king and the queen
used to pray a lot and be at the service of holy men and saints. One day a saint pleased
with the devotion of the king grants him a boon of a son but on a condition that after
eleven years of birth the king must return the son to the saint. Having no option, the
king agrees. The
queen gives birth to a son who is named Alaknandoon. The king and queen are very happy and
so are the people of the land. Eleven years pass and one day the saint comes to claim the
child. The saint orders the king to kill Alaknandoon and serve his meat to him. The king
is aghast but is bound by his promise. The king obeys the saints order and kills
Alaknandoon. The saint is pleased with the kings obedience and brings Alaknandoon back to
life. He tells the king that he was only testing him and then disappeared. |
