LOCATION : It is located close to
the crafts village, Shilparamam at Madhapur. It is around 16 kms from the Hyderabad
railway station. The lake is located 2 kms from the main road.
HOW TO REACH: Local Transportation is readily
available. There is good bus facility from Koti, Mehdipatnam as well from Secunderabad.
First reach Hi-tech city and from there take the road next to it. It is approximately
one-and-half kilometre from Madhapur Police Station. Or else reach Ambedkar O.U and take
the gate from the university premises that lead you directly to this place.

One more leisure spot, which is gaining steady popularity
in recent times, is the Durgam Cheruvu or the Secret Lake. If you want to relax and
have good leisure, away from the bustle of city culture, then this is the right place for
you. It is definitely an appealing place for all the nature-lovers as well as adventure
seekers, with its lush greenery, rocky terrain and other picturesque spots.
There is a hilltop near this lake, which gives you a
magnificent view of this landscape lake. Beautiful ducks dot this lake, which is really a
visual treat for everyone. Youngsters are particularly attracted towards this place, as
they get an opportunity to have a very good weekend.
Boating of all types (Mechanised Boat, Water Scooter
& Pedal Boat) is readily available here, which is the major highlight of this place.
The A.P Tourism department has fixed a separate tariff for each type of boat ride. The
tariff is as follows:
- Mechanised Boat: (For 20 minutes trip) Adult: Rs. 20.00
Child: Rs.15.00
- Water Scooter: Rs 50.00 per trip
- Pedal Boat (For 20 minutes trip) Rs. 20.00 per head
The trip on a mechanised boat would be really thrilling
as it takes you from one end of the lake to the other. Similarly a ride on a putty,
which is newly introduced, is also quite thrilling and it would cost you around Rs. 20 per
trip. You can also have very good time, exploring the rocky terrains.
If you are really fond of fishing, then this is the place
for you, which can be taken up on the other side of the lake. For five hours
fishing, you have to pay Rs. 100 and you are allowed a maximum catch of three fish. But as
of now, you need to make your own arrangements, as the Corporation is trying to procure
these fishing equipment shortly.
For mouth watery recipes, there is one
unique snack bar; Pongali that has been created using rocks. Another restaurant is
also coming up shortly on the banks of the Durgam Cheruvu, to serve fish and other
recipes. But, it is always better to carry your own food.
Another visual treat for you can be a
glance at any film shooting, which is a regular feature here. The tourism department has
set a fixed tariff for film shootings here.
Other facilities that have been proposed by the tourism
department here are the party lounge, an amphi theatre, water fountain, etc. You can visit
this place anytime between 9.30 am to 6.30 pm and the entry fee is Rs. 2/-, which is quite
nominal. |
