Kawal wild life sanctuary was originally managed as a game reserve. It covers an area of 893 sq. km. It was declared as a sanctuary because of its rich biodiversity.  The bio-diversity includes southern tropical dry deciduous forests with   predominantly teak and its associate like Chiruman, Maddi, Chiranji, Abnus, Bamboo etc.  The land is undulating with gentle slopes from north to south.

Fauna:

Mammals:   Tiger, Panther, Sloth bear, Indian gaur, Nilgai, Sambar, Spotted Dear, Feur horned  antilope,       Chinkara,  Black buck, Wolf, Wild dogs,Jackals.Best season to visit is from October to April.

Reptiles  : Python, Crocodile, Star Tortoise, Cobra, Kraite, Monitor, Lizard.

Birds : Peacocks,  Patridges, Quails, Vultures, Eagles, Kites, Owls, mynas, Pigeons, Tree – pies, Kingfishers.
