All-Party Meet on PR bodies re-organization

The state government would convene an all-party meeting before the commencement of next Assembly session to discuss the demand for `reorganization of Panchayat Raj institutions’.

Minister for Panchayat Raj and Endowments Mr. J.C. Diwakar Reddy, informed that the government would take all parties views on `reorganization of Panchayat Raj institutions’. Government would not act in a rigid and hasty manner, but would make efforts to bring in consensus on the issue.

The Government would first study the report recently submitted by the Lok Satta and would then call for an all-party meeting to get various parties views. At present, Government has no intention either to increase or decrease the number of Panchayat raj institutions in the state, he noted.

Asked about his reported statement against free power policy, Mr. Diwakar Reddy shot back saying that one vernacular Telugu daily has `misquoted’ him on the issue. In fact, the state government is determined to provide free power to agriculture sector in future also. “Why the Congress government will go back on the issue when former Chief Minister and TDP leader Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu is also willing to provide free power to farmers”, he asked.

Replying to another query, the Minister said the government had recently decided to pay salaries to the ministerial staff i.e class IV employees working in Panchayat Raj department very promptly. These employees would be paid salaries on par with other government staff, including officer cadre, from this month onwards, he added.

Expressing grief at accident at Kanipakam in Chittoor district resulting in death of three persons and injuries to five others, Mr. Diwakar Reddy said the government has issued orders for payment of Rs.1 lakh ex-gratia to the families of the deceased and financial assistance of Rs.10,000 plus medical expenses to the injured. A case was booked against the driver of the vehicle for his negligent and rash driving towards the congregation of devotees gathered in front of the temple to witness Gramothsavam of Lord Ganesha, he explained.
