Coming from a traditional Maharashtrian family, Madhu Sapre shot to fame as Miss India and later, when she lost the Miss Universe crown by a whisker. With her international looks, excellent bone structure, childlike lips, Marathi accent and down-to-earth attitude, she has tremendous mass appeal. Her relationship with the attractive Milind Soman helped establish her better both as a model and a style icon. Both of them made news when they posed in a clinch with a snake wrapped around their naked torsos for the Tuff shoes ad. They were targeted by the Shiv Sena in Mumbai and had a pretty tough time for it. Madhu continues doing the ramp for India's top designers here after a brief stint abroad.
