VIOLIN
The Violin used here though identical to the Western Violin,
differs in tuning and playing position. The Violin is made of wood such as Maple, Silver
Oak, Cedar, Spruce and Sycamore etc. after it is kept in shade for many years. Ebony wood
is used for the finger board, pegs, tail piece and top nut, while Pernambuco, Brazil wood,
Snake wood or Beach wood is used for making the bow.
Strings
are then fixed to play tunes on.
The western violin was actually adapted to Carnatic music and popularised by Baluswamy
Dikshitar, brother of composer Muthuswamy Dikshitar.
