WOOD WORKS

Wood Carving  |  Lacquerware  |   Kondapalli Toys

Woodcraft here bears the testimony to the history, art and religion of the place as seen in exquisitely carved monuments and temples of the bygone era. With the artisans today carving all the home accessories and furniture, it probably is no exaggeration to say that life without them can simply not happen.

The best wooden carvings from times immemorial have been the religious figures. This especially is true with the stylised images of Kalingamardan and Lord Venkateswara. Today, chiseled in various postures and sizes are the various wooden artifacts like boxes, photo frames, etc., all adorned in floral motifs, epic scenes, and animal forms.

In the good old days of Kings and Nawabs, any palace or Haveli worth its name had to have incredibly carved doors, windows and jalis. Here is a dining table carved for 100 people, an exquisite piece from the legendary Falaknuma Palace…
