Silver Filigree  |  Kundan  |   Meenakari  |  Shellac Bangles

SILVER FILIGREE

Silver filigree is an art of extreme delicacy that has originated in Karimnagar. The artisans create mind-boggling delicate artifacts in silver extending the range from tea trays to fine jewelry, each being a master piece on its own. Standardisation is just alien to them.

Thin strips of fine, pure twisted silver wires are interwoven into zigzag patterns to form trellis like pattern that is used to fill up the ground of designs formed by the thicker silver strips. They are then deftly soldered to create unique intricate designs. Meenakari, Khulla Jaal and floral patterns however are identified as the three types of silver filigree.

Most of all … they are all hand made. The artifact range from tea trays, cigarette boxes, ornament containers to key chains, brooches and jewelry. Their unique and exquisite lace work like silver patterns make them costly yet priceless.
