Temple History

About the Temple :

The temple at Simhachalam near Visakhapatnam, is known to be the second richest temple of Andhra Pradesh after Tirupati. The presiding deity here is Sri Varaha Narasimha Swamy, combining the iconographic features of Varaha and Narasimha.

The Deity :
The idol with the head of a lion on a human torso actually in "thribhanga" posture, is kept covered with sandal paste through out the year. The image appears like a Shivalinga with this cover. The devotees are blessed with "Nijaroopadarshan" only once a year, during the Chandanotsavam, when the sandal cover is peeled off the God.
