About the Temple

Mukhalingam, the town located at the northeastern corner of the state of Andhra Pradesh near Orissa, is an abode of Lord Shiva. It houses three exquisite temples of Mukhalingeshwara or Madhukeshwara, Aniyanka Bhimeshwara and Someshwara temples that are built in the Orissan style of architecture.

Sthalapuranam :

Eastern Gangas are known to have ruled Andhra Desa in the second half of the first millennium CE. Mukhalingam, then called Kalinganagara was their capital, which was later changed to Cuttak, on the banks of Mahanadi by Ananthavaram Chodaganga of the imperial Gangas. They were known to build several grand temples of Bhubaneshwar.
