Govt to take up Bhupalapally Lift Irrigation Project :Ponnala

Minister for Major Irrigation Mr. Ponnala Lakshmaiah said that the Government would take up a project to provide irrigation facility to 60 thousand acres of agricultural land and drinking water to 90 villages in Manthani Constituency of Karimnagar district.

Mr. Lakshmaiah, along with Government Whip Mr. D. Sridhar Babu, said that the State Government would take up a lift irrigation scheme near Bhupalapally with the help of NTPC. He reminded that NTPC has planned to set up its 500 mw thermal power station at Bhupalapally and decided to lay 58 km pipe line from Godavari to the NTPC unit to meet its water needs.

The State Government had approached the NTPC and persuaded them to provide water on other modes. The Irrigation department would take up a lift irrigation project near Yallampally and supply the necessary water to NTPC station. The NTPC had agreed to reimburse the amount equal to lay 58 km pile line to the State Government, he stated.

Stating that Manthani Constituency would get maximum benefit from the project, he said that 2 tmc of water would be provided from NTPC extension project and 4 tmc of water would be lifted from Kaleshwaram, the merging point of Godavari and Pranahita.

The State Government had also directed the officials concerned to conduct a survey in this regard. The project would turn Manthani Constituency as green belt, he opined. However, the works of the projects would be completed by December 2007, he added.

He refuted the allegation of the opposition that the State Government had failed to put forward a clear and effective argument before Krishna Tribunal. He reminded that the work was assigned to senior legal experts and technicians.

In other States, all opposition parties are cooperating with the Government in regard to the tribal matters, but in the State, the main opposition TDP has been trying to create problems to the Jalayagnam launched by the Government, he alleged. He advised the TDP leaders to extend cooperation to the State Government, instead of leveling baseless allegations. Steatadenoma internodal planishing.
