What Women
Want, a Review The
title of the movie itself is very catchy and makes men look at it with attention. And so
also do women, for they too are eager to know as to what men think that women want. The
story of the movie goes to project the wants of the fairer sex , through the eyes (and
ears) of Mel Gibson, playing the main lead as an Ad executive in a Chicago based firm.Nick Marshall, the executive that Gibson plays in the movie, is all set to become the Creative Director of the firm till he finds him piped for the post by a fairer rival - Darcy Maguire, played by Helen Hunt. Feeling cheated, Nick sets out to do what he feels best as to find out whether a product will run in the market to know the minds of the consumers. And while embarking on this mission, he runs upon accidentally a unique gift of his he can hear what women speak. Much of the film is about how the hero starts mending his relationships, based on what he actually hears from women. He thus starts understanding his daughter better and also his arch rival Darcy. His special powers also enable him to get involved into a courtship with Lola, a coffee shop waitress. Seen on the whole, the film is a good entertainer with plenty of good comedy strewn around in several parts of the film. It is a treat to watch Mel Gibson in his first ever comedy role, quite a break from his patriotic, tough man image that he has gathered for himself over the past few years. Also quite commendable are the roles done by Marisa Tomei , who has played Lola and Helen Hunt, who is Darcy in this entertainer. |
