Tum Bin, A Review

Producer : Bhushan Kumar
Director : Anubhav Sinha
Cast : Priyansu Chatterjee, Sandali Sinha, Himanshu Malik, Rakesh Bapat
Music : Nikhil-Vinay

Every debut that a person makes in the Hindi film industry brings along with itself a lot of expectations, promises, and not to mention …..disappointment and frustations also. Tum Bin, a recent release , has more of the first and less of the latter.

The director of the film Anubhav Sinha makes his entry into Bollywood via this film. And so also does the hero of the film – Priyanshu Chatterjee, apart from a host of others - Sandali Sinha, Himanshu Malik, Rakesh Bapat.

The story of the film has some novelty in it. The heroine of the film , Piya ( Sandali Sinha ) is trying hard to recover from a mishap that has occurred to her, namely the death of her fiancee, Aman (R akesh Bapat) in a hit-and-run road accident. The person covertly responsible for Aman’s death is Shekhar (Priyansu Chatterjee ) Though not at fault, Shekhar blames himself for Aman’s death, and in order to make amends lands up in Canada to meet Piya’s family. Realising that Piya is going through a bad patch, Shekhar tries to revive her missed company, and in the process, falls in love with her. Yet the hero is unable to spell out the same since the death incident of Aman constantly nags him

The plot takes a twist when another suitor of Priya - Abhi (Himanshu Malik ) enters the scene. Abhi, a business magnate falls head over heels in love with Piya. Abhi even offers her lady love some shares of his company. Piya accepts them. Shekhar is not at all happy about these proceedings and lets it know to Piya. A bitter argument follows, in the course of which Piya too realises that she has in fact fallen in love with Shekhar. She however keeps this a secret in her heart.

The end of the film comes in a typical masala Hindi film style. Shekhar has a road accident and Piya rushes to see him. Abhi eventually comes to know about their mutual feelings, and like a good boy, recedes to the background, sacrificing his love. The film is thus given a happy ending, with all being well as it ends well.

Seen from a critical angle, this film is a good attempt and shows promise. One point in which the film scores very high is its cinematography. So also is the script and the story, though the end is too predictable and conventional. Coming to the performances given in the film, Priyanshu Chatterjee looks good and acts well to. So also does the heroine Sandali Sinha. Himanshu had a very weak role tailored for him and yet he has done that convincingly.

Seen on the whole, Tum Bin can definitely be watched out if one feels like seeing a movie which is fresh and has some new characters playing in it.
