Simharaasi ,
a review Cast :
Rajashekhar, Sakshisivanand, Anand RajDirector : K Samudra Producer : B R Choudhary Credentials: S A Rajkumar (music), Nandamuri Hari (editing) V Naidu (photography) The banner 'Super Good Films' is identified with 'quality'. The list of its credentials are numerous, some of its movies being Surya Vamsham, Su Swagatham, Seenu, Raaja, Nuvu Vastavani.. Its latest venture 'simha raasi, no doubt is an addition to that list. The whole movie revolves around Narasimha Raju (Rajashekhar), the hero who took birth in Simha Raasi (Leo),and the movie thus titled 'Simha Raasi'. The movie comes under the genre of 'Action movies' where the hero is characterized as 'Macho' . What is added on to the macho personality is a an added outpouring of mother like sentiments, on the part of the hero. The story goes in this fashion - Narasimha Raju is an illiterate, living in the village 'Devi Patnam' The only objective of his life is to safeguard the interests of the people and look after their wellbeing. He is as ferocious as a lion to the betrayers and as tender as a mother for his people. He is more or less god for 50 villages and leads a simple and hermit life in the company of Babai (Giribabu) and Nandulu (an Ox) Seeing masses backing Raju, a politician (Anand Raj) approaches Raju for his support to contest in the coming elections, but steps back as he could not comply to Raju's condition of 'safeguarding the interests of people with heart & soul'. Anand Raj retires from active political life after his defeat in the elections and also complies to the challenge but starves to take vengeance.. The drama, at one time, leaps back to 1965 (the day Raju born). As his mother was suffering from leprosy he is deprived of her love. All this and more compelled him to lead a simple life and see a mother and a sister in every woman and a family in the whole village. On the other hand, Rajeswari, the woman who has a liking for the hero, is all the more determined. But Raju is firm he negates the proposal. On another front of the story, elections are back again. An even this time, Raju does not compromise with the welfare of the masses. The act compels the wicked politician to use Raju's sister as his weapon. Raju himself handles the whole situation and Nandulu helps Raju in the accomplishment of his task. As a story the theme is nothing new, it is just 'old wine in the new bottle'. But, technical aspects of the film are commendable. Coming to the action part Rajashekhar as Narasimha Raju is befitting and his action is worth watching. The dialogue delivery is enchanting & the hero has essayed his role with utmost sensitivity. The role of Sakshisivanand as Rajeshwari is just an appendage and takes care of the glamour aspect of the drama. Anand Raj as a wicked politician is up to the mark. Vijay Kumar as a loving father of Raju has given a matured performance. Giribabu & Shivaji as assistants to their respective Masters' portrayed their role with care. Achyut as a brother-in-law of Raju has performed upto the expectations. The comedy line is refreshing and keeps the audience consistent with the pace of the drama, Brahmanandam as Rama Brahmam,'an easy going person' and Narayana as Basavaiah 'a witty old man' are hilarious & have done justice to their roles. The movie moves at a slow pace (you huff and puff wanting it to move on) and certain ridiculous incongruities crop-up. But, the 2nd half is the better half. The music by S A Raj Kumar, is definitely an asset to the film and the the lyrics too are captivating, mainly that of the song of the mother. Editing by Nandamuri Hari is consistent with the theme. photography by V Naidu. The movie is is done in some spectacular, beautiful locales and the choreography, as well as the costumes are value additions. A special mention is needed to applaud the background score, which keeps the audience glued through out the drama. On the whole, a watchable fairy tale, but a must watch for the fans of the Lion. |
