GADAR -
Movie review This
film gets one back to the massacre of Sikhs during the Indo - Pak partition. Rightly
called Gadar meaning Partition, this film is produced by Nittin Keni of Zee Telefilms and
directed by Anil Sharma, of Shradhanjali, Hukumat, Elaan-E-Jung fame. Starring Sunny Deol and Amisha Patel in lead roles, this film brings alive the stories of Sikhs coming from Pakistan, arriving at Amritsar station on the train in which they used to escape from Pakistan. In addition to this the storyline also focuses on a love story in the backdrop. Sunny and Amisha have put up a brave and commendable performance. Sunny has a high expectation from this one, as he had a drought of good films of late. So is the case with Amisha, who seems to have lost out after the initial blaze with kaho na pyar hai. Director Anil Sharma feels that this movie should serve a lesson to many. "It is a lesson for Indian filmmakers to make a good film. We had to wait for an Attenborough to make Gandhi. Agreed that he made a good film, but we had to wait for him to do it rather than make it ourselves. But this film is an example in itself. It did not have a great budget like Gandhi but it at least proved that we can make good films ourselves", he says. The tunes of the movie are rhythmic and melodious, especially Musafir aane waale is pictured in a very emotional background. For veteran Anil Sharma, whose last film Maharaja was the only flop of his life, Gadar is a film very close to his heart. Hopefully he continues his success trend. |
