LagaanDirected by Aushutosh Gowatrikar, Lagaan is a movie setting which goes to as back as 1890. The story line revolves around a farmer, Bhuvan (Aamir Khan), who protests against the payment of the land tax levied by the British. Lagaan, is the hindi meaning for tax. The story has the pull of patriotism and every shot has atleast 50 actors. Above all it has 40 British actors working in the movie. After the bombing of Mela at the box office, in which he co starred with his brother Faisal Khan, Aamir has high expectations from this home production. Shot in the locales of Bhuj from January to July 2000, this movie is estimated to be budgeted around Rs 15 crores. It is said that the climax took three months to edit. Nevertheless, A R Rahman provides some good and rythmic tunes to the movie. The songs are really soft and melodious. New face Gauri Singh, debuts in the film and has a chunky role along side with Aamir. However, it has to be seen whether Aamir's desire to make a "perfect" film is fulfilled or not. |
