Pearl HarborWorld War 2 has been the setting of many a epic movie as well as best sellers in the West. And many among these, while portraying the ravages of war have intertwined poignant tales of love in the backdrop of all brutality and ruthlessness. Pearl Harbor - the most talked about movie now in the States as well as across other continents, has the same theme love in the midst of war. What makes this movie unique inspite of the fact that there have been several others that have captured the bombing of Pearl Harbour is how a personal story has been woven in the backdrop of perhaps the biggest event in American war history. The story goes like this : Childhood best buddies Raffe (Ben Affleck) and Danny (Josh Hartnett) find their dreams soaring high when they become pilots in the U.S. Army Air Corps. With the U.S. staying out of World War II, Rafe volunteers for the British Royal Air Force, leaving Navy nurse and girlfriend Evelyn (Kate Beckinsale) behind . Rafe stares death at its face every day in the midst of air-action, while Evelyn and Danny are transferred to the "tranquil" military base at Pearl Harbor. A love triangle is born, courtesy courting and mails .. Across the Pacific, Japanese Admiral Isoruku Yamamoto (Mako) is plotting the swift and strategic attack that will "awaken the sleeping giant" of the U.S. The plan, when executed, shocks the nation and hurls them full force into the action of the World War. One of the high points of the movie is the 40 minute action which shows in awesome detail the attack itself. Slow motions, heart-stopping camera action have made this portion one which has been rarely dealt with before in movie history. As for the rest, there is much of the tale of love, enacted well by the photogenic main cast.- Affleck, Hartnett and Beckinsale. What comes a bonus, however is some very good acting by the subordinate casts of Jon Voight ( plays the President Roosevelt) and Dorie Miller who plays a mess attendant who went to win the Navy Cross.
