Cartoon of the Day

Nayak
, A preview

An interesting film to watch out in the month of August will be Nayak. In fact this film will see a political thriller hit the silver screen of Bollywood after quite some long time.

Starring Anil Kapoor and Rani Mukherjee, the film portrays the fearless actions of a talented journalist, fighting for justice of the common man. The film begins with Shivaji Rao ( Anil Kapoor) , an ordinary person who has a passion for truth and loves to take up daunting challenges in his work. A daredevil television reporter, his actions often irk corrupt and inefficient politicians, whose many a loophole he fearlessly points out via his reporting.

Chief Minister Balraj Chauhan (Amrish Puri) is one such politician. The entire affairs of the state is in a sorry state, thanks to the mismanagement by Balraj Chauhan. Yet the Chief Minister manages to fool the public and keep them in disillusionment. It is at this juncture that Shivaji Rao takes upon himself the task of revealing all about the inefficient Minister. He decides to publicly interrogate the Chief Minister.

The Chief Minister, in the course of this interrogation, challenges Shivaji Rao to take up the mantle, if he can do it better. Shivaji Rao does take it up, and starts doing a wonderful job of the same. But his endeavours are of course not without resistance. Every action of his is challenged and what ensues is a war of wits as well as fists. And all through out the hero’s struggle for justice, he is ably given good mental support by the simple and lively girl Manjari ( Rani Mukherjee )

The positive points of the movie are quite a few. Apart from the story itself, the acting of Anil Kapoor will be of interest, considering the fact that he is indeed an accomplished actor. An additional point of interest will be the cinematography, the film being shot in as many as seven states of the country. And of course, how can one leave out the point that the music of the film has been scored by none other than A. R. Rahman. To sum up all, this film will be an interesting one to watch in the month of August.
