Review : Chandu (Gopichand) is brother to sincere police officer ACP Bose (Jagapathi Babu). Love blossoms between him and Indu (Anushka), a student. Meanwhile, Section Shankar (Yashpal Sharma) masterminds a plot to kill Bose who is after him. They succeed in killing Bose. The rest of the film is how Chandu takes revenge on the killers of his brother.
Analysis
Gopichand has been doing complete mass action films. Lakshyam gives him to scope to do romantic and family sentiment scenes and he has utilized them rightly. New director Sri Vaas has chosen regular revenge drama. He has tried to tell the film in entraining way in the first half but he has lost grip in the second half of the film. It is a formula film.
Gopichand’s performance, Jagapathi Babu’s appealing screen presence, and good music make the film work. More care should have taken on script and climax sequences. Lakshyam has nothing new as per as story is concerned but it has elements that appeals to the target audiences – mass audiences. Brahmanandam’s comedy is a relief. Sentiment scenes towards the end have not worked out well. On the whole, Lakshyam appeals to the mass audiences despite predictable storyline and narration.
Performances
Gopichand is perfect to the role of an angry young man. Apart from intense performance (for which he is popular), he has done his best at romantic and comedy scenes too. Jagapathi Babu’s role brought freshness to the story. He looks dashing in the role of a cop and both Jagapathi Babu and Gopichand are almost like real life brothers.
Anushka and Gopichand’s chemistry is very good. Ansuhka brought glamour to the film and she sizzled in songs. Kalyani is just okay. Bollywood actor Yashpal Sharma is good in a negative role. Ashishi Vidyardhi’s brief role is okay. It is Brahmanandam who provides much needed comic relief.
On technical side, Manisharma excels. Sekhar Joseph’s camera is adequate.
What’s hot!
Gopichand’s performance, Manisharma’s music and Jagapathi Babu are plus points.
What’s not!
The script is very formulaic and the narration by new director also leaves much desirable. Such revenge dramas bring fatigue among the audiences. It is too lengthy and very slow paced in many situations.
Bottom-line!
Lakshyam has commercial elements that might appeal to the mass audiences. Gopichand’s performance and action episodes go well down with them. Despite predictable storyline and tepid narration, it works due to music and good star cast. Contentwise, it is not that appreciable. |
